WSQ Certificate in Security Operations

The WSQ Certificate in Security Operations is a competency-based training programme targeted towards unarmed frontline officers that are deployed at various locations or events to perform security roles.  It is intended to equip the Security Officer with the basic skills and knowledge to conduct security operations. The programme incorporates both the theoretical and practical aspects of basic security operations.

Full qualification requires the learner to complete 3 core and 3 elective modules.

The programme comprises of 6 modules, incorporates the theoretical and practical aspects in security operations at the workplace. At the end of each module, participants will be subjected to an assessment to test their competencies on the respective modules. The assessment is based on oral questions, role plays, written reports and demonstrations in equipment handling.

Upon successful completion of the individual modules, a WSQ Statement of Attainment for the respective module will be duly awarded by SSG. After successfully completing the required core and electives modules, you will be awarded a WSQ Certificate in Security Operations and the related transcript by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).

Who should attend: Security Officers, Senior Security Officers, Executive protection Officers and Security Screening Officers.

Learning outcomes:

1. Be able to Provide Guard and Patrol Services (Basic licensing module) - 2 days, Core 
2. Be able to Handle Security Incidents and Services (Basic licensing module) - 3 days, Core
3. Be able to Recognise Terrorist Threats - 2 days, Core
4. Be able to Assist in the Evacuation of Premises – 2 days, Elective
5. Be able to Conduct Screening of Person and Bag (Mandatory for those using Handheld Metal Detector, Walk-through Metal Detector and conducting Bag Checks as part of their regular duties) – 2 days, Elective
6.  Be able to Operate Basic Security Equipment (Knowledge and skills operating an access control, monitoring alarm and CCTV monitoring equipment) – 1.5 days, Elective
7.  Be able to Manage Disorderly Conduct and Threatening Behaviour - 2 days, Elective7.

8. Be able to Conduct Security Screening and Search of Vehicle - 2 days, Elective

*Average teacher : student ratio for each module is 1 : 20.

Minimum entry requirements:

  • Secondary 2 education, SPM or NTC 2 (must show certificates)  or
  • Able to read, write and speak English at ESS WPLN Level 4  or
  • Enhanced Basic Security Training under WSQ or NSRS

* Those that do not meet the entry requirements will be subjected to interview before acceptance.

Duration: Modular basis, flexible course schedule (learn when you can, at your own pace). May be able to complete within 6 months (subject to course schedule/availability).
